TABOO
This design was ispired by one of my favourite violin pieces: Gypsy Airs by Pablo de Sarasate
This garter stitch shawl is worked in radial rows of motifs from the top center down. The rows are knit continuously (with the exception of pink row in the middle), and there is no need to break yarn within the rows.
MATERIALS
Short circular needles US size 5 or 6 for the motifs, and long circulars for the trim only.
You will also need fingering- or sportweight yarn in at least two highly contrasting colors.
I cannot tell you how much yarn you will use; it’s a modular design and you can add as many rows as you want. For the prototype shown, I used 275 g of KnitPicks Palette. It measured approximately 60cm deep and over 2 meters wide before blocking. After blocking it stretched to 2.5m wide, and 65cm deep.
GAUGE
Approximately 2 X 2 sts in 1cm. I used size 5 needles, and my stitches were quite loose on the needles. But, because of the shawl’s construction, the gauge isn’t that important.
